Your Year End Review

To get where you want to go, you must start with where you are.

Moving forward in life and business begins with a real, raw look and where you are today — in each important area of your life. Aknowledging both your wins, and where you’ve fallen short. It”s only when you take full responsibility for exactly where you are right now, without self-judgement or regret, that you can be free to move forward and become who you want to be!

Your Lifestyle Wheel

Your life is like a wheel — supported in the middle by a strong core, with spokes running outward to form a round circle that can roll evenly across the ground.

Without the core, the spokes have nothing to attach to.

And without even spokes extending from the center, the wheel cannot roll.

YOU are the core of your wheel, and the spokes are defined by each important area of your life which combine to create your overall lifestyle. If any one spoke is too long or too short, it messes with the symmetry. Balance is key — and while achieving and maintaining balance is a lifetime journey, it starts with evaluating where you are in each key area so you can apply focus in moving forward.

It Starts With You

You will never out-live your own self-image, thought patterns, and beliefs. These inner workings are the core of who you are. They not only determine how you operate in every single area of your life, but they explain WHY you operate in that way. Your mindset, beliefs and thought patterns determine every single aspect of your life — both what happens to you, and how you respond to it. YOU can be improved (or the opposite) by the information you choose to consume: the things you read, watch and listen to on a regular basis that shape your mindset, self-image and beliefs.

You can’t underestimate the importance of your physical health. This includes how often you move your body, what you put in your body, and how much or how little sleep you get on a regular basis.

What you do for a living. This includes the income you earn, but also your time and stress levels. Does your career add or take away from the other parts of your wheel?

What you do with your money. Living within your means, saving, investing. Wealth is not about how much money you make, but rather about how you take care of that money. Does your income adequately exceed your monthly expenses? Are you financially responsible? Do you pay your bills on time? Are you saving and investing?

We are all spiritual beings having a human experience. Regardless of whether or not you are religious, we are all spiritual. Spirituality is about tapping into the spiritual side of your being — through reading, journaling, meditation and community.

We become the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with. The people you choose to spend your life with; romantic relationships, friends, family, co-workers, will have a profound impact on who you become. All relationships are a give and take. Yes, you must give more than you take, but you must also recognize when relationships become toxic and draining. Are the people in your life (or the people you follow on social media) adding to your life, or taking from it?

Physical Environments

The house you live in, the car you drive, the space you work in. They don’t have to be fancy or expensive, but are they clean? Are they tidy? Are they organized, or are they filled with clutter? Your physical environment will either drain you or inspire you. Make sure it’s the latter!

What good is life without a little fun? Yes, you should work hard… but you also get to play hard! Fun is your hobbies, recreation, and down time. Do you make it a priority in your life, or is it something that’s constantly taking a back seat to every other demand? Are you prioritizing fun for yourself, as well as with your family? Fun is just as important as work.

Your Life Areas Combine to Create Your Lifestyle

Here’s the thing, if your lifestyle isn’t the one you imagined, it’s because the individual areas we’ve covered here don’t add up. If any one area is too weak, or too strong compared to the others, your lifestyle wheel falls out of balance. People fall short on their goals because they start on the surface — they see their lifestyle, and say “I want to fix _____ result”. When in reality, they need to look at the core of their wheel, and their habits in each individual area first.

Your philosophy (beliefs about yourself and the world around you) determine your attitude and your outlook on life. Your attitude determines the actions you take. Your actions dictate your results. Your results combine to create your lifestyle!

If you notice one particular area where you struggle, go back to the core — what are your beliefs about yourself, and the world around you that may be dictating your habits in that area? It’s only by starting where you are that you can determine how to get where you want to go!
