I recently read Brian Tracy’s book, No Excuses; The Power of Self-Discipline and there were many “ah ha moments” for me but one in particular that I just had to share with you!
Tracy calls it “The Law of Three”.
He said when coaching entrepreneurs, business owners and even executives on how to DOUBLE their productivity, he takes them through the “Law of Three” exercise.
I found it to be very powerful, so I’m going to take you through this same exercise today!
Think about this for a minute, what if you were able to double your productivity in your business?
Do you think it ‘might’ have an impact on the growth of your business… and your income?
You bet it would!

What is the Law of Three?
The Law of Three says there are three primary things we do as an entrepreneurs that contribute 90% or more to building our business.
I loved this, because it simple and it make so much sense.
And that’s why I wanted to share it with you!
First Things First
The first thing I’m going to ask you to do is to make a list of every single thing you do in your business for one week.
Regardless if you work your business an hour a day or 3 – 5 hours a day, it doesn’t matter… but don’t leave anything out.
This will work if you are brand new or have been in Network Marketing for years.
Write down every small things and big thing you do in your business in any given week..
- Making New Friends on Facebook
- Networking on Social Media
- Reading and Replying to Emails
- Reading and Replying to Messages
- Creating Images and Posts for Social Media
- Inviting People to Look at Your Products or Opportunity
- Following Up with Your Prospects
- Making Phone Calls
- Coaching Your Team
- Hosting Virtual Events
- Mailing Samples
- Selling Products
- Hosting Parties
Review Your List
Next, I want you to review your list, asking this question, “If I could do only ONE thing on this list, all day long, which one task or activity contributes the most value to my business?”
Chances are the correct answer will jump out at you!
Whatever it is, put a circle around it.
Now, ask yourself this second question, “If I could do only TWO things on this list, all day long, what would be the second one that would provide the most value to my business?”
Again, circle it.
Finally, review your list one last time and ask, “If I could do only THREE things on this list, all day long, what would be the third activity that would provide the most value to my business?”
Your Job, Once You Have Your Three
This is where the magic happens!
Once you’ve identified the three most critical activities, the ones that provide the most value to your business, you job is to discipline yourself to DO THESE ACTIVITIES daily — and to spend most of ‘your working hours’ doing these three things!
You’re probably asking, “But what about the other things on my list?”
All but your top three are referred to as ‘minor’ tasks/activities.
They are likely categorized as support, complementary, enjoyable or possibly even useless activities!
More than likely, they are things you’ve developed the ‘habit’ of doing as a way to unconsciously avoid the important… and sometimes larger and more difficult activities that will have the most impact on your business!
To help you complete this “Law of Three” exercise, I’ve created a worksheet to walk you through every step, from start to finish… and even included my personal ‘tips’ when it comes to #1, #2 and #3 for what we do in Network Marketing!
